Join the Team

Who are we? We are dotted around the globe. Most of us have never met each other in person, but we all have at least two things in common: 1) we’re interested in international politics  2) we’re self-motivated: we’re running e-IR because we enjoy it. Our current team is listed here.

All roles advertised are voluntary, and all work is carried out remotely (at home etc..)

Before you read further please have a good read around our about section, and read through our most recent brochure (pdf) to make sure you understand what we do.

Current Vacancies:

Technical Team

Members of our technical team help build e-IR, and help to put all our designs and ideas into action. This requires a good working knowledge of database/cpanel and modern web software such as wordpress (etc..). You will not need to physically work on server configurations, but you will need to be able to handle remote database work, coding, software updates, and so forth. Our technical team is very small, and we are always on the lookout for a capable pair of hands who have some time to spare as and when we have new features we would like to build.

So, If you would like to help us make the website even better, send us an email titled ‘Technical Team‘ to info@e-ir.info, and tell us a bit about yourself.

Commissioning Editor

Commissioning content is at the heart of what we do here at e-IR, and involves contacting academics/experts and inviting them to write pieces for the website. Our commissioning editors are responsible for all the great content you see on e-IR – so we are always on the lookout for promising individuals to add to our team. Before getting in touch with us, think up some ideas of clear, specific topics you would like to commission on (they must be broadly related to international politics) and scan the Articles section of the site to familiarise yourself with the kind of content that we publish. Full instruction/training is given for this role.

•    you’ll need to be self-motivated and hard working and have at least 5 hours a week to spare.
•    you will need a good academic knowledge of IR/politics and a good command of written English.
•    you don’t have to be the next Ken Waltz, but you do need to be able to tell a good submission from a bad one.

If you prove yourself successful at commissioning pieces, then very soon we’ll start including you in broader editorial discussions and invite you to take on more responsibilities. So if you like what we do and want to be a part of it – this is a great way for you to start. It’s also a great way to network with academics and practitioners.

To apply, send us an email titled ‘Commissioning Editor’ to info@e-ir.info, and tell us a bit about yourself and your academic qualifications/aspirations. Please also attach an academic writing sample (a student essay will do).

Editorial Intern

Applicants for editorial internships should be students of international relations, politics, or a related discipline who have 5 hours a week to spare to assist us across various operations within e-IR. This may involve social media work, proof reading content, assisting on joint projects, and helping us raise awareness of the site. Full instruction/training is given for this role.

To apply, send us an email titled ‘Editorial Intern‘ to info@e-ir.info, and tell us a bit about yourself and where you study. Please also attach an academic writing sample (a student essay will do).

We will get back to short-listed candidates for all advertised posts within 2 weeks of application. Please note that we cannot respond to unsuccessful applicants due to the volume of applications that we receive.
