Alan Hamlin is Professor of Political Theory at the University of Manchester and was previously Professor of Economics and Dean of the Faculty of Law Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Southampton. He has held visiting positions at the Australian National University, at several US universities and at All Souls College, Oxford. He is the Editor of the journal Constitutional Political Economy.

The notion of political feasibility is a complex one and has a sharp contrast with the fundamental idea of ideal theory – which tends to sideline all issues of feasibility in order to focus on the question of desirability.
