Joy Gordon is the Ignacio Ellacuría Chair in Social Ethics in the Philosophy Department at Loyola University, Chicago.  She wrote Invisible War: The United States and the Iraq Sanctions (Harvard University Press, 2010), and has published extensively on economic sanctions and ethical issues in international relations.

It would be good if the embargo on Cuba were lifted but the establishment of diplomatic relations do no such thing. Rumors of the its demise are greatly exaggerated.
