Roger Epp is Professor of Political Science at the University of Alberta. His work includes We Are All Treaty People (2008), which reflects a larger interest in place and situated knowledge. His work on Martin Wight, the British Committee, applied hermeneutics, and the idea of the limit in international theory has appeared in numerous journal articles and edited collections, most recently The English School Guide to International Studies (2014).

IR theory in the West has become parochial and stale. Therefore, it may need Chinese scholarship at least as much as the reverse is true.

It would be disingenuous to prescribe an IR theory with Chinese characteristics. At most, it is possible to say what a cross-cultural theoretical encounter might require.
