Reviews
e-IR features regular reviews of books and media that fall under the remit of international politics and will be of interest to our readership. The reviews section is intended to be primarily a vehicle for students, past or present, to share their impressions of resources they have used. Reviews are generally aimed at relatively new media, though we welcome pieces offering a fresh perspective on classic works.
Some notes on format:
- A review should both convey the general thrust of the argument and also develop a clear critical opinion of the utility/validity of the source, whether positive, negative, or mixed. Reviews that do not offer a critique will not be accepted.
- Reviews should be 500 words or more. If longer than 1000 words break into sections with sub-titles.
- All sources used should be referenced to academic standards – including citations (at least page numbers in brackets) for all quotes from the source under review. Hyperlinks are welcome.
- Include a short author bio at the footer of the review, directly under your conclusion/final sentence (where/what you study etc..)
Upon receipt an editor will read over your review and be back in touch – usually within 1-2 weeks. We usually ask for some amendments/improvements prior to publication of those reviews that we accept.
