Essays

Submitting an essay to e-IR is a great way to share your best work with your global peer group and to contribute towards the best online resource for students of international politics. We screen all essays that are submitted based on the criteria listed below. So, please take a minute and read on carefully to give yourself the best shot at publication.

1)   Your essay should have been assessed and returned to you by your course tutor/lecturer. This allows you to apply any corrections and/or improvements pointed out to you in your feedback. We do not accept formative or non assessed work.

2)   Ensure that your English language and grammar is of a publishable standard. If you are not a primary/native English speaker, ask some friends to read over your work prior to submission.

3)   Check that your essay is referenced to academic standards and that all sources are listed in full at least once either in footnotes or a separate bibliography.

4)   Remove all contents pages, references to essay page numbers, declarations, cover sheets, word counts, templates etc… These are of no use in an online format.

5)   Check that your paragraph and sentence structure is balanced. Huge paragraphs and long sentences can make your argument difficult to follow.

6)   Dissertations are welcome, but due to their length we will only accept these if they arrive proof read to the highest standard, and laid out clearly.

Once you are satisfied your essay meets these criteria, submit it via the essay upload form

An editor will get back to you with a decision on publication within 4 weeks. Although we do not publish all of the essays that we receive, we reply to every student who sends us their work, so there is no need to enquire on the status of your submission unless more than 4 weeks has passed – in which case please chase us up at essays@e-IR.info. All copyright remains with the author, and essays are published under a creative commons license.
