Author profile: Elçin Doruk and Siret Hürsoy

Elçin Doruk holds a PhD degree in international relations from Ege University and award-winning doctoral thesis on governing of global commons, Antarctica in particular. Currently a research assistant in the Department of Economics at Yasar University, her research mainly focuses on Antarctic affairs, environmental conservation, international law and border management.

 

Siret Hürsoy is head of the Department of International Relations at Ege University in İzmir, Jean Monnet Chair of the EU’s Commission and Team Europe Speakers Expert Group member of the Delegation of the EU to Turkey. He received his B.A. in International Relations from Eastern Mediterranean University (North Cyprus), M.A. in International Relations and European Studies from the University of Kent at Canterbury (UK) and Ph.D. in International Relations and Politics from Philipps-Universität Marburg (Germany). Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung granted him scholarship during his Ph.D. studies. In years between 2005 and 2011, he was the member of the Advisory Board in the Strategic Research Centre (SAM) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey. He also served as the Director of Ege Strategic Research Centre from 2010 to 2013. The US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ granted him Fulbright scholarship on the Study of the US Institute for Scholars on US Foreign Policy in 2012. His research areas are security, defense, peace and conflict studies, foreign policy analysis, democratisation and security sector reform particularly in relation to the EU, NATO, UN, Turkey, Middle East and Cyprus.
