Author profile: Piyumani Panchali Ranasinghe and Khalid Dader

Piyumani Panchali Ranasinghe is an Attorney-at-Law in Sri Lanka. She is currently a MSc in Human Rights and Multiculturalism candidate at University of South-Eastern Norway. She holds a BSc in International Relations from the University of London and a LL.B. degree from the University of Peradeniya.  She was a former temporary academic at the Department of Law, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Piyumani has authored opinion pieces, working papers and has contributed to several publications. She also runs an environmental storytelling platform for female writers. Her research interests are human rights, environmental law and education.

Khalid Dader is a writer and activist. He is currently an MSc Human Rights and Multiculturalism candidate at the University of South-Eastern Norway. He holds a BA in English Language and Literature from the Islamic University of Gaza, where he worked as a teaching assistant for one year. His research interests are gender studies, decolonization theories, and human rights. Khalid also worked at the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor as a translator and volunteered at We Are Not Numbers Organization as a writer.

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights,’ but as seen in western discourse over Ukrainian migrants ‘European’, ‘White’, and ‘civilized’ seem to be freer and superior.
